Mushrooms
2002
Installation, 12,000 plaster mushrooms in the Garden of Sculpture,
Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

During less than a week, 12000 plaster mushrooms grew in the Sculpture Garden; a strange event that surprised many people, and gave a new, extraordinary look to this garden, located in the heart of crowded, busy city of Tehran. People gave various explanations on it. Some ascribed it to the rain and thunderbolt. School students passed through the fences to touch them, and the employees of the overlooking buildings bet if they were real or artificial. Many saw it driving in their cars, wondering how this could happen. Few people could believe that an artist has made and installed them in the garden. . Although this work attracted countless people who had never intended to go to the museum to see a work of art in the 2nd New Art Exhibition, so many still saw it without ever understanding that what they had seen was not a sudden growth of mushrooms in the Garden of Sculpture, but it was a work of art.
